This is the last thing I made before Miss Emily arrived. I’ve just found out where I wrote the pattern down so now I can post it!

I made it with 4 ply wool and 3.5mm hook. I’ve written it in US notation.

Flower Base (in pink)

Round 1: 6SC into magic ring (6)

r2: 2sc in each st. (12)

r3: *sc in next st, 2s in next st* (18)

r4: *sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st.* (24)

r5: *ch 6, skip 2 ss to join*

r6: *ss, 9dc into chain loop, ss*

Flower Middle (in yellow)

r1: 6sc in magic ring (6)

r2: 2sc in each st (12)

r3: *sc in next st, 2s in next st* (18)

r4: *sc in next 2 st, 2 sc in next st.* (24)

r5: sc in each st Back loops only for this round (24)

r6 – 7: sc in each st (24)

Stuff and add rattle or large bell. Attach to flower outer. I crocheted them together, they could also be stitched.

Strap (in green)

work in rows not rounds!

row 1: ch41 (41)

row2: sc in 2nd ch from hook, sc to end (40)

row 3&4: sc in each st (40)

attatch to back of flower and stitch velcro to ends.

Georgina Giraffe

Here’s one from the archives!

It’s Georgina giraffe from Lion Brand Yarns. Shje was a new baby gift for our niece. The litlle girlie in question turned 2 last month, so it was a while ago. Georgina is made from baby bamboo.

So Bowser was the most requested Super Mario Bros character. But it’s taken a while to source the pattern. (and after that a while to make him. about 3 weeks of evenings and odd minutes I think!) Before you ask, yes he was made pre Emily’s arrival, I’m not that much of a super mum!

The pattern is from Nanette and I basically followed it acurately. I made my armbands from felt, and I added crocheted eyebrows but that’s about it.

The photos were taken after a few weeks of oz love so he’s not exactly as he was!

This one was my choice. In fact Oscar wasn’t all that sure about the whole thing, although now he’s carrying him around with the rest.

Wolfdreamer doesn’t have a pattern for a koopa so I was forced to search elsewhere! I’ve since seen fancier koopas, but I’m happy with this one. It’s from here. I did change a couple of things. I did 2 less rounds on the eyes, and I pinched and stitched the nose to make it more ‘beaklike’ than the one intended on the pattern.

Oz is now quite keen on the idea of me making some koopa shells like this for mario to throw in mario kart (in fact he wanted me to leave the head and limbs off and just make a shell). I do hope he’s not expecting that I can construct a mario kart (each?) for them to ride in! (I have heard rumours of a requirement for a second Yoshi for Luigi to ride. This may be a longer series than originally intended!

Yes I know it’s random, but a certain small boy is deciding the order of creation…

The next character being unveiled is King Boo. He’s a baddie from the Super Mario Series. Apart from bowser he’s prolly Oscar’s favourite.

The pattern is again from Wolfdreamer. She’s so very talented! Check out her fan art patterns!

So here is my second ever pattern! It’s a baby hat, shown here made from DK with a 5mm hook.

(This particular hat was a baby gift for a friend, I’ve made one in cotton for Tinkerbell as she’s due to be a May baby. I’ll post a pic of her in it when she arrives.)

It’s US notation.

ss = slip stitch

hdc = half double crochet

ch = chain

dc = double crochet

rnd = round

** = repeat between stars

work in the round, do not join or ch up.

Round 1: ch4 ss to join and form a ring (or you could use a magic ring)

rnd 2: 6 hdc into ring

rnd 3: 2 hdc in each stitch (12)

rnd 4: 2 hdc in each stitch (24)

rnd 5: *2 hdc in one stitch, hdc in next stitch* (36)

rnd 6: *2 hdc in one stitch, hdc in next 2 stitches* (48)

rnd 7-13: hdc in each stitch (48)

rnd 14: *2 hdc in one stitch, hdc in next 3 stitches* (60)

rnd 15-18: hdc in each stitch

rnd 19 (edging): *skip 1 stitch, 5 dc in next stitch, skip 1, ss in next stitch*

The pattern for the flower shown above is listed on the last baby hat, here!

So next in what it seems will be a series of crocheted Super Mario Brothers Characters are Mario and Luigi.

The characters are taking me about a week each so expect an extended timeline!

This time the pattern is from the Queen of fan art crochet: wolfdreamer! She has many many Super Mario patterns and several others such as Pokemon.

Here are my humble efforts. In my defence the ‘people’ patterns are the hardest to make look ‘right’.

One small boy is very happy, so I suppose that’s all that matters. 🙂
