Oscar’s reading is always improving so we’re able to have a little more reading related fun now!

This is what he found when arriving home from school one day recently:

… but God knows every one and God knows me!

Did anyone else sing this at Sunday school? Ah, Just me then?

Well it was the inspiration for the toddler group craft that I sent for last week. (I was at work…sniff!)

You could of course make them yellow with orange legs and call them Easter chicks or with red tummies for robins at Christmas!

Here’s the how to:

I just drew all the shapes free hand (and then drew around them 30 times or so for toddler group!)

Attach tummy to body

Add the beak (it’s a diamond shape folded)

and the eyes:

Concertina fold strips of paper for legs and attach them:

and finally add wings:

I failed to find an mp3 or music score, but here are the words for the sparrows song:

1.
There are hundreds of sparrows, thousands, millions,
They’re two a penny, far too many there must be;
There are hundreds and thousands, millions of sparrows,
But God knows every one and God knows me.

2.
There are hundreds of flowers, thousands, millions,
And flowers fair the meadows wear for all to see;
There are hundreds and thousands, millions of flowers,
But God knows every one and God knows me.

3.
There are hundreds of planets, thousands, millions,
Way out in space each has a place by God’s decree;
There are hundreds and thousands, millions of planets,
But God knows every one and God knows me.

4.
There are hundreds of children, thousands, millions,
And yet their names are written on God’s memory;
There are hundreds and thousands, millions of children,
But God knows every one and God knows me.

Do you pray with your kids?

It’s something I find quite difficult. We do prayers after Oz is snuggled down in bed. But we always end up saying the same thing: thank you for today, please help us all to sleep well etc.

I can’t claim credit for this idea. I’ve seen it all over blogland for all kinds of uses; chores, activity ideas, getting ready for school check list you name it, it’s out there! We’re using ours for a prayer jar to give us variety in who we pary for every night.

First we wrote the names of who to pray for on fat lolly sticks (they came in that goodie box that Oz won last year). It’s a random selection, as Oz chose them!

Then I decorated a jar to put them in (Oz had wandered off at this point!)

So now when we get ready for bed we pull out 2 sticks and pray for whoever is on them. (or that’s the idea, mostly he pulls them all out and chooses, still I suppose that’s reading/word recognition, right?)

While I was at it I made one for me too. But mine has issues and ‘things’ to pray for as well as people. I added tape to the ends of the people sticks so I can pick one person and one situation.

For the reasons why I started writing weekly notes sheets for my son please see the first Bible Time post here

This week I am sharing the sheets about Jonah. This is of course a much simplified version of the whole story *** make sure you read the Bible Bits as the sheets don’t cover it all****.

We are using the Candle read and share Bible (See it here! ) for the most part. Although Oscar also has The Lion First Bible (See it here ) You could of course use any other translation!!! Along side these we have read any relevant story books we had to hand.

I have tried to give credit to wherever the images used came from.

For the remaining days of the week we used downloaded colouring sheets. There are a LOT of options out there.

Please let me know if you are using this! I really would like to know if it’s helpful. Feedback would be great!

We used the song “Now listen to my tale of Jonah and the whale…” I haven’t managed to find online lyrics or music though, sorry!

I have been searching for a while now for bible notes for preschoolers. There basically only seems to be one option: The Beginner’s Bible.  Unfortunately while it has GREAT teaching it doesn’t have a lot of doing. I remember bible notes to fill in and colour in as a child.

So the search was put on the back burner and life overtook. Then Oscar’s Occupational Therapist (OT) mentioned that he should be doing a pen and paper activity every day. The following Sunday there was a talk at church about telling others about the Gospel. I came home thinking that I wasn’t even properly teaching my own son about the Bible. I prayed (a lot) and set to work.

That was 3 weeks ago now and we’ve done a Bible story a week. I’ll be sharing a new set of preschool activities each week here on my blog for anyone who can make use of them. I’m not a great artist and I’ve tried to credit where my images came from. Any mistakes are of course mine!

Below is a sheet to download for 5 days. For the final two I just googled Noah colouring sheets. We are using the Candle read and share Bible (See it here! ) for the most part. Although Oscar also has The Lion First Bible (See it here ) You could of course use any other translation!!! Along side these we have read any relevant story books we had to hand.

*** It’s really important that you read the Bible bit first, as I haven’t covered the whole story on the sheets ***
