Welcome to Friday Cake Break! (You’ll notice I still haven’t made any kind of banner!)
This week’s cake really is this week’s, I finished it yesterday.
As you already know I’m a bit of a perfectionist. Unusually I’m really pleased with this one. Not so much with the workmanship, but more that I feel I really have achieved *Elmer*!
Here’s the how to:
cake! Mine was baked in a rectangular pirex.
ready roll icing
gel colour (& cocktail sticks)
and here’s how to make it…
Draw and cut out the elmo shape on paper
Cut him out with a sharp knife.
Colour your icing in a myriad of colours!
Draw on Elmer’s patches and mark which colour they should be.
Cut out each square *one by one*. Roll out the appropriate colour icing, cut around the patch out with a sharp knife. Place the square on the cake. Only then cut the next paper square or you’ll never get them together again! I usually coat the cake with jam first so they stick. I forgot this time and I certainly wasn’t about to peel the jigsaw off him to add it later!
fast forward a couple of hours…
If I did him again I’d probably do the sides before the top! I covered the sides with royal icing using a palette knife. I’m not sure it’s the best thing to have done, but equally not sure what else I should have used! (answers on a postcard….)
